Stripes and Books

So I have decided to branch out of reblogging and create a real blog, one where I write, and give my actual opinion on actual things. So this is it. Here you will find me posting on living a healthier life and being active and I will try to give the best advice I can on the healthy living process and diet track. I will also be posting about books, expect many book reviews because I am a bibliophile. I will write on whatever I want, so I hope you enjoy my thoughts.

Vegetarianism overview:

What are the different kinds/levels of vegetarians?

Pescatarian - A “vegetarian” who eats no meat, with the exception of fish.

Flexitarian - A person who eats vegetarian most of the time, but still eats meet infrequently (maybe once a week).

Lacto-Ovo-Vegetarian - This is by far the most common type of vegetarian.  This person does not eat any meat products, but still eats dairy and eggs.

Vegan - They do not eat any animal products, dairy, or eggs, including processed foods that contain them.

Where do you get protein if you’re a vegetarian?  Because isn’t there only protein in, like, meat?

There are actually TONS of places us humans can get protein besides meat.  Nuts, legumes, seeds, soy, grains, dairy, and eggs all have protein!  I foundthis article that gives you more specific values for different varieties within each category.  So check it out!

Since I’m a vegetarian, do I just replace meat with carbs and cheese?

NO NO NO!  That’s totally the wrong way to go about it!  If you are cutting out meat, you need to replace protein.  I can’t stress this enough!!

How do I tell my parents?  What if they don’t want me to be a vegetarian and don’t support my decision?

When I told my mom that I didn’t want to eat the turkey she got out for my lunch, she completely freaked out and I stared crying.  It was tough.  But when I came home and really talked about it, she had cooled down and was cool with it.  I think parents just see it as a shock, therefore might initially freak out.  But even if they don’t like it at first, they’ll come around.

Motivational Tip…

I always find it more beneficial to workout or run with a friend. Having someone with you can boost your energy level just by having them there. We all know working out and running alone can be a little boring, even if we do have music. Also working out with a friend can make it more competitive and the feeling of competition always makes you want to go even harder!

So I have been a little unmotivated this last week due to the holidays and just being busy with looking for apartments and looking at furniture and all that comes with preparing to move. Finally I am leaving the comfort of living with family and going to live with my best friend in our own apartment. However, I did work out again today finally (: So this week it is back to healthy living!
